Book of Bones: An Introduction to Skeletons Informational
Age Range: Eight to Ten, Ten to Twelve
Subjects: Skeletons, Bones, Parent Resource, Teacher Resource
This is a cool book full of great pictures and interesting information. It goes through each class of animals - fish, reptiles, birds, mammals - showing how animals developed more and more complicated skeletons. Then it concentrates on the human skeleton, showing in detail the different parts of the body and explaining why the bones are shaped the way they are. My kids liked the way it discussed fontanels in the skull and the x-ray of a sixteen-week-old fetus. At the very end is a quiz, a glossary, and an index. This would be a fun book just to have around. There are plenty of times your kids will want to look something up - especially after they break a bone. JC
